Often, this is simply the result of ingrained habits: the smaller box is out of stock, so a larger one is used with some extra void fill. Or pallets are wrapped ‘by feel’, surely a few extra wraps of film will provide more stability? These are real-life examples we see every day at our customers’ sites. The benefits of making targeted choices

With the introduction of stricter PPWR legislation, minimising packaging waste is becoming increasingly important. Topa helps you take a proactive approach. Together, we look at how waste can be reduced directly at the source, for example by creating packaging that fits the product precisely or by finding better-fitting boxes or bags within our existing range. This reduces the need for void fill, which is often one of the first packaging materials to end up in the bin. By also opting for circular materials such as rPET tape or PCR film, you give existing raw materials a second life.

Custom packaging in practice: the Robinetto case

Our collaboration with Robinetto, a provider of sustainable water solutions, shows just how much difference a well-considered design can make. Previously, a combination of separate boxes and void-fill materials was used to ship their products safely. Following a joint analysis, Topa developed a compact, smart, custom-made combination packaging solution.

Robinetto and Topa brought all the individual components together in one carefully designed solution that closely fits the products. This not only significantly reduced cardboard consumption, but also considerably reduced the need for additional protective materials. The result is a more efficient packing process and a much cleaner waste stream. After use, the entire packaging solution can also be easily recycled. Less residual waste, maximum protection and a unique, circular life cycle.
